This is a largish story-less TCB hold, all on one level.

The difficulty level is a bit random, but for the most part it's easier than some of my other holds. Most rooms can be played in any order.

A new hold by BoyBlue.

This one is non-linear(you can try any room you want, so you can leave tougher ones for later) and large. Be prepared for tough lynchpins and horde rooms. You might also need some knowledge from AC to complete some of rooms.

There are some easy rooms though, so if you search a bit, you can find them.

The day this hold showed up in Architecture was like Christmas for the Rabbit. A huge sprawling level of clever rooms, each with a different trick, that I could just play and play and play. It's been a long time since we've had a hold like this.

This might be the best hold by BoyBlue. At least I liked it greatly.

Mind telling a clueless n00b like me what "AC" stands for? ;)

"Archival Catacombs"?
"Armor Class"?
"Airconditioning"?

I could be wrong but I bet it's the hold called Advanced Concepts.

Oooh, that would make sense. Still - why shorten it to "AC" to throw people off? ;)

EDIT: Also, hooray for yet another spurious 1-vote... :(

Excellent work, BoyBlue. This is perhaps your best hold yet! :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

I haven't gotten to all the rooms, but I have managed to solve a few of them. They all look really hard, but some aren't as bad as they look. It just requires some logic, advanced game concepts, trust in the architect, and an optimistic heart to get through them.

8 brains
9 fun

Who do you think is the mysterious 1-voter this time? What motives do they have?

I think it's an AC.

OK, I'm not done with it yet (only about 2/3s of the way through it) but...thanks for a great, fun hold!

And, in particular, thanks for including the teleporters, because without those I think I would probably go crazy.

If I could just figure out how to solve 1W I'd be particularly happy.

In any case, I don't tend to rate holds before I finish playing them, but this is on track for a 9 fun, 6.5 brains rating from me.

Josh

OK, I guess I'm going to be the first one to cave and ask for a hint as to how to find the last secret room. I still have several (10) required rooms to go, but I have been trying to find the secret for a good long time and no luck.

If you know how to find it, you know which one I'm looking for, but just in case, it's

Given the teleporters in this hold, you might think that teleportation is involved here, but no. The room is accessible normally, without the help of scripting.

That seemed to do it. It wasn't information I didn't already have, but I was forced to reexamine some things.

OK. Nine required rooms to go, four secrets. But at least I know where everything is now!

Thanks,
Josh

OK, I've mastered and not quite post-mastered this hold. (Two rooms left in the post-mastery area.)

One bittersweet aspect about being one of the first people through a hold is that #1s are easier to come by. The bittersweet part comes from the fact that the people who you grab the #1s from often seem to come and take them back. Ah well.

At one point (pre mastery) I had five #1s here, now I have three, counting two I just snaked from Rabscuttle in the post-mastery area. (We'll see how long those last!) [EDIT: Not long at all, as it turned out.]

In any case:

Awesome hold. I give it a 10 for fun and 7 brains.

I did have to ask for hints on a few rooms, but the joy of the hold's construction is that I was largely able to defer the rooms that gave me trouble until the end, and in most cases I was able to figure out a solution on my own.

Josh

I somehow got distracted at some point and left this hold unfinished. That's been fixed, and having mastered it I can say that it's a really great hold! Its open, 1-level layout means that while the rooms are fairly difficult in a (mostly) non-tedious sort of way, there are always a ton of other rooms to work on while waiting for inspiration to strike on any given room, and there's a huge variety to the rooms available. Those who expect a story with their puzzles will be disappointed, but everyone else should take a look at this one.

I also left two post-mastery rooms incomplete (1N3W and 1N4W). I wonder if they're the same ones.

Why yes, yes they are.

Rooms that nobody should ever have to solve. (And, in fact, nobody does.) :)

I've solved all the rooms in the hold. Neither of those two are immensely difficult, although the room full of mud is a bit monotonous.
