Well, here it is. After a few hours of intense level design, I have created a level I feel is worth while. I'm posting two copies, one for the right and one for the left solutions.

Whoops. :-O I just realized that the two levels I posted have two tiles that are switched around! Oh well, it shouldn't make to much of a difference as the level is still solved the same way.
Sorry about that.

...and that concludes the month of April.

Let's see, we have a submission by

Danjen02
The Mystic
B.J.Earles

Also, I believe Kwakstur and Wonkyth were working on something. Would it help if I gave you one more day to post what you have? Even if you didn't complete your level, I'd like to see what you've come up with so far.

So tomorrow I'll put up a poll where people can vote for their favorite level, and comment on them. I think I'd like to do this every month; we've already drawn in one new person so it sounds like fun :D

Good idea. I've already taken the liberty of making a few templates. Also, I'm planning to save any and all templates we use, along with their rules, in case I decide to use them to make more levels.

I really like the idea of having a design contest every month. :thumbsup I really enjoyed this one, and I would probably participate in any future contests. It's also fun to see what everyone else made.

Umm....Yeah...about that...you see I originally came up with a really good idea, which I do quite a lot, but the problem is that unless I finish it in one sitting, I usually forget how it was supposed to work and how to complete it.
Here is the non-finished level. If anyone else wants to complete it, go ahead!

I was going to make another level to take its place, but I sorta ran out of time. Sorry. :?

I like the idea of these contests, but currently, most of my free time is going into my AGS game.

D'oh. Sorry, Stuart. I had it on my hard drive but just overlooked it in the forum.

Anyway, poll is up.

Now I'm wondering about this: on the one hand, I thought it might be fun if the winner would make the template for next month. On the other hand, that might take too long (given that we need a week or so to vote for stuff, and then the winner has to make up a template, and there has to be enough month left to design levels on), and I don't want to preclude the winner from next month's contest. I don't mind making templates either, of course.

So which should we do?

It could always be half-and-half...
Asin, you could make it so that the winner of the previous month sets the physical template, and you make up some special rules to go with it.
providing your special rules are interesting enough, it should prevent them just taking a long-time-in-the-making level, taking out all the interesting parts, and calling it a template.
Maybe you should put that to a vote as well.
It might make it easier to make it a bi-monthly thing, each actual comp running for about a month and a half. that would certainly make it easier for me to attend.

I just downloaded your level; it looks like it's got the makings of a pretty good one. Why not just complete it anyway?

I don't mind just having Radiant do it, but I think it could work this way as well:
Anyone who wants to could send in a template and/or a rules set to Radiant to be considered for a contest. The entry can be used for any contest in the future, not necessarily for the next month. Radiant can then take the templates and the rules and mix and match them any way he sees fit (or just add his own).

As for the winners of each month's contest, I think it would be neat if they were included in the yearly expansion (provided that they meet the criteria) and included a text box that stated what month they won in.

I like the idea of keeping the contest monthly. It doesn't really pose a problem for me (especially since next week is the end of my spring semester :8bounce ). I know it can pose a problem for some people, but that's just part of the challenge.
However, if it means getting more people to participate, I'm all for extending the time frame :) .

Don't change the timeframe just for me, as I probably wont be able to find much time as it is.
Maybe in the future, but at the moment my schedule is pretty crowded.
if more people say that increasing the timeframe would mean that they could enter, then go ahead.

For sure! The more levels the better. :)

Maybe you can participate in the next one.

Okay, that sounds interesting too.

I'll leave this open for further discussion. In the meantime I'm going to post the template for may, before the month is over. I'd like to do this once per month as a regular schedule, and ideas for how to do it in June are welcome.

Check first post for details.

My interpretation is that you must kill exactly 4 of them.

Though Raidant, what exactly do you mean by that one of which must survive? Only one type must remain? Only one enemy must be left period?

No, one should survive.

I'll leave that interpretation up to you. I'm trying to inspire ideas, not to be nitpicky about them :)

You know, I just thought... maybe it would be possible to include the template rules in the level hints, for exactly that purpose...

You could do that; I've just been saving each template's rules as a text file.

I seem to remember having trouble uploading levels that weren't of the current ST version. don't know why, but getting the new version seemed to fix the problem.
