Slow down and think about this one. There's a brain in the room, so you know that the aumtlich going to try to follow the path out of the maze. Your job is to prevent it from getting stuck on a mirror on its way.
That's where the pretty checkerboard pattern in this room becomes useful. You need to control which way the aumtlich is looking, so it doesn't get stuck. And you need to count squares in order to do that.
The rule is:
- aumtlich turns to look at Beethro if Beethro is closer
- aumtlich turns to look at the stalwart if the stalwart is closer
- aumtlich turns to look at the stalwart if Beethro and the stalwart are equally close
You need to choose a path for Beethro, such that he can step in and out of control of the aumtlich's gaze, as needed.
Which way is that? North or south?

×That would be north, such that the aumtlich is always between Beethro and the stalwart.
