At long last, here's Erik's latest hold, rescued from the depths of Architecture. It's a short set of interesting aumtlich manipulation puzzles, arranged in order of difficulty, and seasoned with that special brand of humor only Erik can create. Have fun! :)

Except that surely someone else can create humor like it, otherwise he wouldn't have been replaced at Caravel, right?

Right?

Oh, Erik's writing skills and humor are quite literally irreplacable - I'm really hoping he'll still be helping out with the writing in future games. All that us on the dev team can hope is that we can match the high standard, if not the same exact style.

Hey, nice! An almost lunchbox-special sized hold, with good difficulty progression. Some rooms are not obvious, but it is never impossible to figure out what you need to accomplish to clear the room. Actually doing it, however, is sometimes tricky. Just how I like it. :thumbsup

Absolutely awesome! Haven't conquered it yet, but I have to say I love it! The puzzles are a nice variety of difficulty and they are very enjoyable to solve. I also enjoy the the comments from Beethro and the Aumtlich.

Thankyou for this wonderful Hold, Erik!

This hold is really cool!

You need to be decent at aumtlich manipulation to conquer it. But overall, not too hard.

8 fun and 3,5 brains.

Only 10 for fun? You think this hold is only just as fun as any of the Architests's holds?

Wow.

Well, I can. Dungeon Master (5), An Citizen Quest (10), An Eye View (10)
Since you've only gave one of Erik's hold a 10, I don't really think you like Erik's holds.

Back on topic, I gave a good score for this hold.

A really cool little hold. Highly recommended and not too hard.

One question: I didn't use the orb in the trapdoor area at all in 2N1E - is this only necessary for the hard version? (which I have not yet attempted).

You must mean 2N1W? I used it, the first time, certainly. It's the orb at (3,21) which is the hard version. Note for Syntax, the hard version is of this room only, and not anything separate.
But thanks for the idea. I just did the room without using that orb, and that allowed me to claim the new #1 (106).
Edit: And I can do the hard version in 112.

in 1S1W:
Beethro: I'm done going in circles.
...and then he has to make another circuit of the room to get out.

Fun hold. Looks to be a 7 or so so far.

This hold is hard. This hold is fun. This hold is hard. I guess one part of it being hard is that fact that I'm not too good with aumtlichs. No, not too good at all. I did like the speeches that Beethro and the aumtlich made, but I didn't get very far in this hold.

8 Fun
7 Difficulty
83/100 Recommendation

I enjoyed this hold quite a bit -- it's always a pleasure to play one of Erik's creations, although he downplays his architectural ability.

A good aumtlich hold, illustrating a couple of neat ways you can use them. The puzzles are not particularly hard, and it's not a tutorial, so there are a few tricks that got left out...but what there is is a lot of fun.

I give it 4 brains of difficulty and an 8 for fun. I know that difficulty-wise this is lower than people have been rating it, but I shall defend my rating to the death! Or, well, some.

Josh

Mastered! I think...

I played this hold all the way through a couple of months ago but forgot to rate it! How silly me.

Anyway, this is indeed an incredibly fun, little hold. The sign in the entrance gives clues as to how to play the hold in the correct order in a very humorous way. I still laugh at it whenever I think about it.

The puzzles are great as well. The first few rooms were pleasantly easy (without being trivial) while the last few rooms (Danjrus and More Danjrus) were most certainly enjoyable to figure out without being aggravating or tedius. I even got the happy feeling when I conquered them! Plus, the speech is a bonus, as Erik can be quite the comedian.

So,
9 for fun
5 for brains
90/100 recommendation rating.
In short, you should definitely play this hold. Great job, Erik! :)

This is a short hold of aumtlich manipulation from Erik, the founding father of DROD.

This contains a small collection of puzzles - some simple, some a bit trickier where you will manipulate aumtlich to your own ends - you might also learn a bit about mimic & aumtlich interaction as well.

With speech and story given that trademark Erik touch, this could quite easily be part of an official hold and I don't think there can be much higher praise than that.

Highly recommended!

My verdict:

Difficulty: 5
Fun: 9
