OK. Wondering if any of you lot can remember what the title of the game was.

It was a Commodore 64 game. You played a floating set of teeth, eating dots and sweets, moving left and right in a series of tunnels. You could move up and down between tunnels, but only when there was a gap. At the end of each level, a toothbrush zoomed in, cleaned the teeth and then zoomed off again.

If I could remember the name, I could play it again

I seem to remember a game called "Plaque Attack" on the C64. Might that be it?
