I suppose I'll reiterate then - I wished for the hold where mimics attempt revenge, and created the Technology style.

I wished number 4 (the Stalwart Hold) and made number 6. I'm amazed to have come second in my first official Contest! I'm just wondering how on earth I did that so I can make my Holds better...

I wished for #1 (the one-room puzzle hold), and gave #3 (the short story).

I am very pleased to have come in third.

Yes.

(OK, it's a .rar file, not a ZIP. Do you need an actual ZIP?)

I know you did -- you were the last person to vote and I was in equal third until then......... :P

I don't know who you were in 3rd with so I don't know if it helped or hurt.:w00t

This was the first contest in a long while that I could give out 10's to anyone besides myself(as instructed). I gave "The Mimics Vengeance"(#6) a 10 "cuz it was such good darn fun," and quite clever. I gave 9's to #3,#15, and #16. You were among the 8's given to #4,#5,#13 and #17. No one got 7's but I did dish out two 6's. One to #10 and one to #12. I thought the technology while off to a good start needed more elements and the wish.hold which I finished was not very lynchpin but more exhausting and I was disappointed it was not accessible in build even after finishing.

Just a suggestion for future contests: I think that when holds are submitted for contest we should have a rule that they be accessible in build mode. This would be true unless if defeated the purpose of the contest. I can't think of how that would happen but then someone out there might think of some way. This way the ability or lack of ability of the player does not keep them from seeing the whole hold.

This has been an 'I really should put this rule into the next contest' item for several contests now. Perhaps the contest coordinator can make it a basic requirement of any contest that includes architecture. (This contest was kind of freaky, since offerings could have been just about anything.)

I'm happy to suggest it to them, but ultimately it comes down to the contest host to make a decision on such a subject.

Would it be worth having a 'Standard Rules for Official Contests' sticky for things which almost always make sense? It could cover things like the regular prizes, submitting architecture entries as anyone-edit and the penalty for voting 10 for one entry and really low for everyone else, and then just be included by reference for each contest.

It could potentially be overridden in a particular contest description, but to be honest I'm struggling to think of a situation where we wouldn't want architecture entries to be anyone edit, or where we would want to let people vote 10,1,1,1,...,1.

No, I mean actual rules. For example (and very roughly drafted (and some of these aren't even rules yet)):
In any contest which is decided by public vote, entrants must vote 10 for their own entry and rate every other entry fairly on its merits. People detected cheating (eg voting 1 for all other entries) will have their vote cancelled, be publicly named, and be barred from entering the next contest.

If a contest entry includes a hold, that hold file should be set to Anyone Edit. If a hold is not set to Anyone Edit, voters should feel free to rate the entry based only on the parts they can reach given their personal playing skill.

Unless otherwise specified, prizes are:
First place: 100 rank points plus an item from the Prize Pile.
Second place: 50 rank points.
Third place: 25 rank points.

No contestant may win more than one of the major prizes in a contest. For example, if multiple entries are allowed and someone wins first prize, they are automatically disqualified from winning the second or third prizes with their other entries.

Contestants entering their first contest will receive an additional 10 rank points.
In other words, a sticky with all the standard rules that should generally be in every contest with very few exceptions[1] but either sometimes get left out by accident or have lived in "I really should put this rule into the next contest" land.

Ideally each contest post would link to the standard rules, but to be really useful it'd be stickied and referred to enough that it should be considered in effect unless a contest post specifically overrides it.

[1] I'm not counting things like the Anyone-Edit rule in non-architecture contests as being an exception; even though it's irrelevant in this month's contest it wouldn't do any harm by being active.

That's exactly the sort of thing I think we should have. The exact details can be subject to change, but a baseline of contest rules seems reasonable.

This should be very easy, check your PMs. Did you receive any PM talking about rank points being added in the last four months?

That does assume I haven't deleted any PMs, though. Specifically, read PMs, deleted them and then forgotten about them.

I know I got my prize for the DoGC election, and I think I got the points for the SS as well.
