That happened to me too when I signed up. I didn't give my gmail address to anyone for the first couple of months I had it, and it still got gobs of spam. All of it was flagged as spam, but I wonder where they got the address.

Interestingly, my gmail address, which I almost never use and still haven't written in a public place, seems to get at least as much spam as my regular one, which I've naively written in plain text all over the place. Thankfully both of them are good at filtering.

The gmail spam classification is top-notch, but it still gets occasional false positives and false negatives. And Caravel-sent mail has definitely ended up in gmail spam filters before. I admit that with gmail I stopped going through my spam filters unless I was expecting something crucial.

Erik has in fact traveled back in time and convinced Pretty Hate Machine era Nine Inch Nails to perform the soundtrack for TCB, but in the process accidentally caused Terrible Lie to be renamed Terrible Lies, and take on the Tar/Mud rivalry as its new theme.

I'm just hoping that what I suspect is wrong, and that 'terrible lies' means that the game has actually been ready for a couple of weeks, they just wanted to release it on April Fool's again. Ie, exactly what they did with JtRH. I don't know why they did that really, everyone would have preferred it being released when it was finished.. but anyway, I hope its that, and not anything worse.

If your $name@gmail address was the same form as your $name@yahoo/hotmail etc, then the spammers had probably been sending it out even before it was created. They don't just harvest names, they try and predict which accounts might exist and spam them as well.
