When I shown my friend where to download the full version of SubTerra, he soon started complaining of some white (or maybe it was black, I can't remember) flashing stuff that gets in the way of his level editing.

I don't completely know what it looks like. It's not happening on my game. Also, his mom doesn't let guests inside the house (when I go to his house, it has to be outside . . . rather strict). And he doesn't know how to use email (similar reason; he is allowed 1 hour of computer a week, so he's very computer illiterate), so he can't send a picture of it. So I'm stuck with what I remember from phone conversations:

When in the Level Properties menu (with level name, gem quotas, et cetera), the stuff is, for the most part, invisible (I can't remember if it's just that the stuff isn't there, or if it's being covered by flashes of white).
Rarely, just for a split second, the words appear, but then disappear immediately. Now, he mostly just counts the number of rows to estimate where he should click to change the property he wants. I think it would be a lot easier if he could just see the stuff, though . . .

Has anyone else encountered this? But I won't be able to do any troubleshooting with my friend. He's too computer illiterate.
Not even I myself know where to find out my graphics card. But even if I did, my friend would get stuck as soon as I tell him to open up a folder. Seriously, he thinks that "open My Computer" means to turn the computer on.

So, unless this is a really common problem (doubt it) with a REALLY easy solution, then there's probably no help for my fellow sophomore.

Ah yes... I remember encountering this problem with my old computer. The level properties screen would be blank mostly, except for the first few lines, and the rest would flash randomly. I think it depends on the graphics card, or maybe the type of computer.

I got that with ST2 on vista.

EDIT: not THAT badly...

I got that from both ST1 & 2 on Vista, but then I changed the settings so they'd run in compatibility mode. It still happens, but it only lasts for about half a second, then they both run normally.
