icon Problems downloading 2006 contest expansion pack (0)
I have downloaded the 2006 expansion pack, unzipped it and saved it where my other extension packs are. Nothing happened when I tried to run Subterra.
I noticed that, unlike previous expansion packs, this time the unzipped items consisted in .lvl files (including the previous expansion packs), without the usual Subterra icon and without something to click on in order to install them.
So I tried to move the unzipped files to a folder I have in the editor, and a sort of diamond with "Crescent" written under it appeared. I clicked on it and a pop up told me "there is another file called Subterra here. Substitute the old one with this one?" and I said "yes".
As a result, nothing works anymore! When I try to run Subterra, another pop up tells me "Couldn't initialize DirectX".
I had a look at DirectX and I THINK I have number 9 (which should be the latest).
I realize I had better do something else instead of causing this mess, but of course I was so eager to see the 2006 expansion pack.
Help is welcome here!
Caterina

I've had similar problems with other games. I think you accidentally fried your copy of SubTerra.

The only thing I can think of to do would be to reinstall the game (you don't necessarily have to uninstall first, but it may help). Then unzip the expansion levels to SubTerra's "Data" folder; that's where the game looks for expansion packs.

Maybe this will help installing the expansion packs:

http://crystalshard.net/dls/expand.exe

Otherwise just reinstall your SubTerra from the regular download link, that should fix it.

FOR THE MYSTIC:
Thank you for your help. Unfortunately I did have to uninstall and reinstall Subterra...

FOR RADIANT:
...and so I lost all my progress!!

1) Maybe you have my config. file? Just asking. If you have it, could you send it to me so that I don't have to do everything from the very start? Not that I mind, but...

2) I also lost a pack of untested Supaplex which you once sent me (it included Chaos and Watch Out and lots of my favourite ones at Supaplex). Could you please send them to me again?

Thanks for your help. It worked.

The supaplex stuff is here: http://crystalshard.net/zip/SUPATEST.ZIP

Your config file is probably still on your hard drive somewhere, try searching for Player.cfg (there's a big search button in your start menu)

Thanks Radiant.
I used the big search button but no Player.cfg file showed up, except the new one (generated by my latest download).

About those untested levels: the set you sent me, and of which I thank you, is not complete. There were more than fourteen, including Watch Out, Phil's First and other ones but I can't remember their names. If you have them, please send them over! I adore Supaplex.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Caterina

No problem. I had to do that once too, but for me it was caused by a hardware problem (my hard drive crashed, and I had to get a new computer).

I feel that's actually partly my fault. I should've told you to make a copy of your "data" folder.
Radiant! wrote:

I thought those levels were from Supaplex. They've got me stumped, and I've solved all the ones in the regular pack.

Cat - I found this old player file of yours in my archives. It may help.

Mystic - they may very well stump you since I'm not convinced they're actually possible as they are now. Which is why they're not in a levelset.

I thought as much. Maybe I could see what I could do to make these levels playable, like I've been trying with the impossible Push-It levels.

FOR THE MYSTIC:
How many untested Supaplex levels have you got? Because I...

FOR RADIANT:
...I only have 14 levels, while I remember there were 20 or maybe even 24 or 25. I remember "Watch Out!", which cost me a long time to solve, but which is absolutely wonderful. If you have it, along with the other untested, please send them to me!
And, thanks for the config. file! It might spare me sweating over Razzle Dazzle again... :)

The rest of them are here: http://crystalshard.net/zip/SUPATEST_2.ZIP

I'd appreciate it if someone could make them playable. Feel free to add save disks at need :)

I just had the one pack (the first one), and just now downloaded the second.
It might spare me sweating over Razzle Dazzle again... :)
Lucky you. That one, along with a few others, is currently in my "forget it" category. I'm just hoping it's not as tough as it looks.:huh

I'll see what I can do.:hmmm: Maybe I should change my name to "Mr. Fix It" or something. ;)

I can help too! I had solved nearly all of them before I uninstalled everything...
Should I post the tested ones on the Forum here?

Ehm...Radiant? I have downloaded the second pack (there's Watch Out in it! Thanks!)and I've saved it where I had previously saved the first pack of untested. The levels unzipped from pack 2 look different and aren't playable!
The first pack levels: once unzipped, they have the Subterra logo and their names under it.
The second pack levels: once unzipped, they look like rectangular sheets with the top right corner bent, and each rectangle had a drawing inside which looks like a floppy with two rows of dots.

Should I save them somewhere else or what?
Thanks and sorry for bothering you.

Yes please.

Pampaluna wrote:

That's probably because they're levels for SubTerra 2.

I noticed that, too. I tried loading them with SubTerra 1 and failed, then I saw "ST2" as the file extension.

Looking at the files, they do write sub2, so maybe they belong to subterra 2 unless that "2" refers to the pack being the 2nd with untested Supaplex levels, including Watch Out.
In any case I used to have it for subterra 1, and played them, enjoyed them and tested them.
Radiant, if you still have the version for subterra 1, can you please kindly send it to me? Please? Oh please?
Thanks.

I'm afraid I don't have them any more, but if you've tested them you should probably be able to find the demos still on your hard disk.

Thank you for answering me, Radiant. Unfortunately I have removed Subterra entirely and reinstalled it, so I really wouldn't know how to recover them.
I gathered that the Mystic has them. Do you mind if I ask him to send them to me, if he has them?
Thanks, Cat

Sorry, I don't have the second pack of Supaplex levels for ST1, and I never did.

The only thing I can think of to possibly recover the levels is to use a file undelete utility, and look for files with a ".sub" extension.
