Okay, you see, something seems to have changed with lasers in SubTerra.

It used to be that you couldn't pick up rubies in a laser. Checking the help file (F2) under lasers would explain why: "You can't pick up rubies in lasers because they are too hot to touch."

But, then I noticed, while playing The Creator's level, Shooting Game, that I could use shift to pick up the rubies in the laser! I checked the help file, and, Voila! The sentence about them being too hot to touch was removed.

I was figuring that this was because the rubies in laser rule was only in the demo version, and then taken out in the full version. I don't know why it would be taken out, but apparently it was.

What exactly is the story behind this?

Only the rubies directly next to the skulls are too hot to touch. Any others in it's line of fire, you can pick up safely.

Indeed. Also, it's still in the help file.
