Here is a mod which changes the bolts into, get this, firebolts! Just backup your bolts file in data/bitmaps and replace it with this one. It's incredibly simple, but it works incredibly well in my opinion.

Are you stuck trying to find that last secret? No more! Introducing the Cheat! mod. If like me you're a dirty cheat, you can use this to reveal all hidden walls easily and effectively. Use cautiously though, it could ruin your game!

I was actually almost considering being unbored enough to make something that showed hidden walls like 'oh crap', but then I'd feel obligated to make a whole new style. :(

Not a(n illustrious) computer geek. Could someone please let me know how to get this (cheat!) imported into the game? Can only find import windows for demos and player info.

Thanx

I actually have one like that.

I just got a great idea. An extension manager. It wouldn't be hard, it could read off of drod.ini and the Bitmaps files, and it would make people very very happy.

To put it in, find your DROD folder. If you're on Windows, it's probably C:/Program Files/DROD - Journey to Rooted Hold. Go to Data, then to Bitmaps. Put both files in there. Then, go back to Data, open up drod.ini. At the bottom of the [Graphics] section, add Style1=Cheat! (or whatever style you want, or all of them).

There is a specific place that mods need to be placed on a Mac. I just can't remember where. Sorry. I'll post again if I find out.

Which platform?

If it's a Mac, I'm sure a Mac expert will answer that by answering Chimerix's post.

Windows. I'm just confused as to how exactly to set up the INI for mods that should apply to all styles, yet aren't normally GeneralTiles.

For every style in the INI, just put at the end ";Cheat!".

edit: I know it's inefficient, but it's quick, and it works.

Meh.. I know which ones I'm missing, I just don't know how to get there in the demo. =/
If they're impossible to reach without grappling hook or similar, shouldn't they be taken out?

Maybe they kept them in there as an incentive for you to get the full game? :P

I don't think so, since this is designed back in the JtRH (2.0) days and so most likely not compatible with TSS (5.0).

Amazingly, it IS Possible!! What I did was copy new bolt design, rename "bolts.png", and dropped it in Bitmaps. After see how simple it is, I began to play with them in Pinta. For some strange reason, I keep getting grey rectangles when the bolt is at certain angles. All I did was flood some red parts with a custom blue.

Make sure that anything at all which could result in soft or fuzzy edges (brush width, antialiasing, transparency) is turned off. DROD treats the colour (192, 192, 192) as transparent, but even the tiniest difference from that will be rendered as grey.

If you can't figure out how to configure Pinta, you might be better off finding a program more suited to pixel art rather than photographs.

It depends on which game you are trying to install the mod on, and potentially your computer system as well.

For my desktop system, Windows Vista, 2.0 data is stored directly in the Data/Bitmaps folder and the .ini configuration is stored directly in Data. 3.0 to 5.0 also have a Data/Bitmaps folder, but the .ini is stored in C:\ProgramData\Caravel\drod(3.0, 4.0 or 5.0) for me.

However, once you find your Bitmaps folder and .ini folder, actually editing the .ini should be consistent between all DROD platforms: edit "General = GeneralTiles" to be "General = GeneralTiles;Cheat!" and it should start showing the highlights for secret walls.

Thanks, I got it to work. If anyone else wants help with the Steam version on Windows, the Caravel folder is inside "My documents". I copy and pasted the .tim file and .png to the bitmaps folder there and then added ;Cheat! to the end of every line under [Graphics] in the .ini file.
