As was suggested, it helps if you try to kill the first golems in such a way that it makes your life easier later.
×You can create a sort of "
wall"
of dead golems by doing something like:
GGGGGGGGGGB
(with your sword pointed southwest), and moving repeatedly North. This is how I started.

(again, with your sword pointed southwest)
where w is the broken wall, and x is floor. From here, you can move North and then Northwest, arriving in the position described above.
I found this technique useful for this room - it allows you to create solid walls, which can prove quite useful later on when you have to face all the golems at once.
