New monsters: wraith and ghost (0)
The wraith can move through walls and doors, but not other creatures. Its AI is that of a goblin. Obviously, since it can move through walls, Beethro can't corner it in the normal way. There are several options:
1. Back it up against other creatures.
2. Back it up against the Living Tar.
3. Back it up against the edge of the room.
4. Use a mimic to kill it.
5. Although the wraith is incorporeal, it is still affected by gravity. If Beethro can back it over a pit, it will fall down, effectively removing the threat. However, its AI will only allow this if there is no other option for movement (it still fears the sword the most, but getting it to fall in a single square pit will be pretty tough--a large pit is easier).
Ghosts are tougher versions of wraiths. They will actively seek out and possess creatures, and make them move like goblins with a brain in the room. It can even possess roach queens and use them to try to kill Beethro...which could be an interesting puzzle element (wait for the ghost to bring the queens to you before you kill it). Right before Beethro would kill the possessed creature, the ghost jumps out of it and flees to another creature. (This will almost always be near a wall, so it will be somewhat safe. Of course, it could just jump into a pit...). A possessed creature will either glow or look ethereal, so Beethro can tell the difference.
Game on,
