C h a l l e n g e !
Journey to Rooted Hold 8th level: 4S, 2E

The challenge is to kill all the serpents while using ONLY ctrl key moves. No movement, waiting or sword swinging without the control key pressed is allowed. Neither is the undo move feature as it would defeat the purpose of this challenge by allowing normal movement.

Extra: is it also possible to leave the room afterward? What other rooms can be cleared, passed through or solved this way?

If you've never tried using the ctrl key shortcuts (I only heard of them today myself), holding the control key while moving does the following:

ctrl + move = the move followed by its opposite: N then S, or NE then SW, for example.

ctrl + sword = clockwise then counter clockwise, or vice versa.

And ctrl + wait = wait until the beginning of the next spawn cycle.

Of course all these moves tend to leave you in exactly the same place you started..... ;)

Wow, that was awesome. Indeed, its possible to complete the room and leave while holding down the ctrl key. And it was a lot of fun doing so.

Demo attached.

Sweet! Now that the exit bit is confirmed I'm gonna play around with that some more before I check out your demo ;)

I made the kills ok, but kept getting stuck on the way out, so I posted with just the kills as the basic goal. Alright, off to solve part 2 of my own challenge.

EDIT: got it! Demo attached

Seeing as I can't see the room image, am I correct in assuming the room has trapdoors?

Ah.

In other news, seeing as I sent my registration in two days ago, hopefully I'll soon be able to see this room ;)

I'm not too sure what you are saying. You mean CaravelNet? I don't want to disappoint you, but you'll still need to have visited the room before you can see the picture (or something like that).

Do you honestly think I'm going to buy JtRH and then NOT play it for 35 hours straight?

Besides, it's only level 8 :P

You're right. I just gave you a mod point for that.

But seriously, please try not to play for 35 hours straight. It's not good for your health.

I believe what he meant is that it's not good for your health to play for anything less than 72 hours straight. Thugs might be deployed, otherwise.

I actually picked that number (35) very carefully: if it was a multiple of 24, I'd look rather uninformed. I also wanted a high number, for impact, but not something so ridicolus that nobody would buy it.

Well, at least you know what your qualities are: realism and truthfulness.

That's me in a nutshell; mean and a nuclear slegdehammer for subtlety. That's also me with Post Exams Disorder. Don't worry, I should step down to my usual level of silliness in a short while.

There are some things Man was not meant to know, Rowrow: this is one of them. That, and I bought during the apartment bubble, so my nut is quite a bit bigger than you would expect, more like a coconut actually.

We are in a forum, so it makes sense to have a topical fruit, right? And that R you've added... you don't pronounce proper Rs in English, so it's irrelevant. Really.

Or perhaps it's the new, world-shattering, break-through in computer programming: the R programming language, combining the novelty and ease-of-maintaining of Fortran, the complexity of Basic, the cleanliness of Java, and the all-purposes character of HTML.

Note: Ctrl+[Arr] allows you to be both a happy/normal pirate (Arr) and then a rather angry one straight after (Rra), using up two moves. When used in the correct places, this may have unusual effects, especially on mariners, sea creatures and sea monsters.
