Odd Jobs Novice

Beethro has exterminated every dungeon in the kingdom. He enters Sgt. Tark's Odd Job Agency in search of work. After retiring as drill seargent in the king's guard, Sgt. Tark opened his own odd jobs agency. You won't believe what jobs he has in store for Beethro.

This hold features:

Story line.
Voice acting.
Custom images.
Open play. Complete jobs in any order.
Puzzles that represent real life in look and play.
Humor guaranteed to make you laugh (or at least grin).

Credits:

Architect: Larry Murk
Voice acting: Doug and Allison Murk
Testing: Doom, Stefan, and Tim.

Special thanks to Doom who informed me that there are ways to allow multiple level holds to be solved in any order and suggested the specific method of having dual staircases that I used here.

WARNING: This hold is about 12 megabytes.

You need to go down the narrow stairwell to the right. Go down these stairs all the way to the first level and the stairs there lead to the final level.

in my opinion, any hold by LarryMurk is fun and challenging. Now, the odd jobs series is sooooooooo fun. but i try the Expert level, and im stuck on Widget Factory. But then again, another score for LarryMurk!

Keep posting,

Actually, they have different uses. "Spelt" must have "had" before it. "Spelled" can have "have" or nothing before it.

I had spelt it wrong.
I have spelled it wrong.
I spelled it wrong.

Anyways, this will be interesting. An easy hold by Larrymurk . . . that's uncommon. I'll try it and see what I think.

I believe the only difference between spelled and spelt is very much the same as the difference between colour and color.

(and before you ask, this DEFINITELY has EVERYTHING to do with the hold "Odd Jobs Novice" by Larry Murk... :D)

No. Or more accurately, yes, but not universally. See, the "t" past tense spelling "spell" -> "spelt", "dream" -> "dreamt", "learn" -> "learnt" vary considerably in different English dialects. There is no one set of consistent rules which covers British and American English, or even all the different regions of America. Therefore, this is one of those cases where, in an international forum such as this one, it's best to just accept what other people wrote since you can't be sure if they are making a mistake relative to the spelling conventions of where they are from or not.

That's some very....interesting...voice acting on Beethro. :D

Edit:
Right, the voice acting was really quite awful. But entertainingly awful. And frankly, having voice-acting in a user hold at all puts one ahead of the curve. It's definitely suited to beginners and I think probably teaches more about various enemies than the ostensible teaching hold by the same author (DROD Learning Zone). I was not really substantially challenged at any point (except the wraithwing room, and that was mostly because the puzzle relied on wraithwing behavior, a subject of which I knew nothing whatsoever. But the theme was very well done, and I had fun consistently throughout.

My particular favorites were probably the lost little girl levels. Managing two simultaneous tasks was trickier than most of the rest of the hold, and felt quite frantic despite the turn-based nature of the game.

Good show, all in all.

Wraithwing behaviour is actually pretty simple.

1 Wraithwing: Wraithwing stays 5 spaces away as best it can.

2 Wraithwings: Wraithwings stay away, except when they don't.

3+ Wraithwings: Beethro can no longer understand nature's harmonious 4-day Timecube, and the colorless green ideas sleep furiously while figgity fa shaw fa fo fa.

Excellent :) I've always wondered how to explain the logic behind these winged creatures.

You just forget one scenario:

Brained Wraithwing(s) (doesn't matter how many): Imagine a field full of sheep. This field has farrows but every so often the tractor who created these farrows veered left or right for a while. Within each farrow is a rock spaced every 10 metres *in the direction of the tractor*. Well, wraithwings don't care about any of that as they fly above the lot. They do, however, behave very much like the sheep would if they were reduced to only following farrows whilst being chased by a dog who was scared of rocks.

Works for me...

And yet somehow, you have some of the best Wraithwing demos I've seen, Syntax.

Were you a shepherd in a previous era? A sheepdog in a past life, who happened to be afraid of rocks?

lol I appreciate the compliment. I do seem to end up with #1 on a lot of WW rooms. Not sure why that is. I certainly haven't studied their movements in depth but I seem to get a feel for large swarms.

As for past lives, I was in fact a dog scaring rock stuck in a farrow and being occasionally trampled by sheep.

Maybe that's helped me in this life.
