On the hints & solutions board see "DROD AE-Stairs touching room edges.".

I found a way to do this, but also found bugginess in the process.

After this session of tinkering drod crashed upon ESC out of the room editor and won't restart.

How to put stairs against the (bottom) edge:
1. Create your staircase someplace out of the way.
2. Highlight it and hit CTRL-C to copy it. (It seems for copy/paste mode to work correctly, you must select the blank tile as the active component ? I should read the help).
3. Paste the staircase such that it goes off the bottom of the screen.

There you go.

If you do this for the right edge, the overflowed stair wraps around to the left side of the room. Intentional? If so, there is a graphical glitch in the shadow along the very left edge.

After the crash, when I attempt to start drod, I get the following error popup:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library (in the titlebar)
------------------------------------
Runtime Error!

Program: {path to drod.exe)

abnormal program termination

[ Ok ]
-------------------------------------

I'll reinstall and try again.

There doesn't seem to be any documentation on the copy/paste feature... maybe this stuff wasn't intended to be tested yet? (I am using a released beta...)

You're right -- I'll put in some documentation for build 28. And...oof...it shouldn't wrap around when pasting near the edge of the screen. (I can see how that would crash it if it was pasting tiles off the bottom of the room!) This will also be fixed in build 28.

After observing the wrap-around effect, I deserve a public for not realizing why that was crashing.

As a side-note, in light of the level 1 stairway going off the bottom of the room, I think we should change the stairway placement so that it allows you to do this (i.e, you don't have to have walls on the south end if the stairs go all the way to the bottom of the room). If Erik doesn't mind, I'll see if I can manage this.
