First of all, great game! I bought DROD:JTRH yesterday after playing the older DROD and falling in love with it. I've already spent about 10 hours making the top level to my debut hold. Don't know what you guys will think of it but I've really enjoyed building and playing it!

Anyway, I got a couple of questions. Firstly, are 'Master Walls' something which are local to a level or are they global to the whole hold? I initially understood them as doors which open when you find all the secrets on a level - perhaps so they can lead to level skip warps or the like. But something I read recently makes me think they may be 'Master Walls' for the entire hold. Can someone clarify that a bit for me?

Also, I think we need more types of pit. The 'dry' pits are a little boring. I loved the spike and lava pits in the original DROD. If possible, I think a levelstyle should be able to have 2 types of pit you can place down, but maybe the game just needs more levelstyles.

Also, maybe to change the hue of the walls and floors might be nice, so you can create new spins on existing styles. It'd be great to see the 'foundation' purple walls in red, for example.

Well I'm sure I'll have more to say at a later date, maybe post a demo sometime soon, though I don't want to rush it.

Cheers all,
Sendy

Welcome aboard, and good luck!

Master walls apply to the whole hold, and can only be unlocked once all secrets have been conquered (and perhaps all rooms too, but I haven't checked that one). For example, Dugan's Dungeon 2.0 has Master Walls right in the first room, but you will need to conquer the whole hold to unlock them.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm a little dissapointed, because I'm not sure what I could put behind a master wall for a whole hold. If it was just for the level the obvious thing would be a warp zone. Can someone tell me what, typically, goes behind master walls? And also, it is sensical to use them on more than one level?

Master Walls tend to hide the juicy bits of a hold. You know, like the credits, maybe the Ridiculous Levels you couldn't fit into them, Perhaps a strawberry made of red, green, and yellow doors.

Levelwise, you're probably still stuck with using blue doors, which admittedly don't look for secrets.

--incidentally, use the architecture forum to test your hold out. Some of us folk are crazy, and find unintended solutions you'd never thought of.

You could require that the whole level is conquered, plus all secrets, with some planning though: the access to that room would require going through all secret rooms, dropping all their green doors, and then dropping the blue door.

It is not perfect, of course, but it should work out, especially if you can "teleport" Beethro with a script, giving you some leeway on the layout of those secret rooms (of course, if you only have one secret room on all levels, it will be much easier).

Level warps are good things to make secrets. Generally you can do some pretty interesting things with the blue doors - as all the required rooms have to be done, you can build very non-linear levels that have rooms that are difficult to work out how to get to. However, it's strongly suggested that you clue people into the fact that there is a secret somewhere on the level, by leaving a big hole somewhere in the level, making the entire map be a piece of hold art (and thus have a missing piece), or just flat-out tell the player.
