I made it through this level without actually completing this room. Is this a glitch? I just bipassed it because I knew I couldn't get it from the SW entrance and I never did wind up coming back. I thought you had to defeat all rooms? Just curious.

This room is not required to beat the hold or level. However, there is an incentive to beat it. (Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.)

when you enter a room if it shows red on the minimap it is required
if it shows pink it is optional

I'm not worried about beating the room at this point...but I can't seem to even get past the first line of roaches coming in from the southeast, much less make it through the room. I've tried pointing my sword north, south, east, ne, and se (anything to the west doesn't make sense), and entering from every square...I know I'm missing something here. any suggestions?

pardon, southwest, yes...but if you can't get through from the southwest at all, I haven't the foggiest idea how to get to the west entrance of 2E....level 24 is driving me crazy...

edit: nevermind, I totally missed the east exit from 1n, 1w...time for new glasses :p

Ok, maybe it's bad form to ask for help on optional rooms, but I need help on this optional room!

Obviously my roach-fu needs improving. I enter from the north as recommended in this thread, successfully defend myself against the 1st line of roaches, and almost-successfully against the 2nd line.

My best results have me entering from the NE-most point, sword pointed south. I move and swing, killing a roach every turn, and taking what seems to be the only available step most of the time. I always end up backed into the NE corner with a line of roaches due S and a single one due W.

Attempts starting from other squares and with other sword positions have, so far, been even less effective.

Advice? Cryptic hints? It'll all be appreciated!
