Ok I know this room is easy....except for one thing. I have always had trouble getting rid of tar that is on 4x2 squares, (like that at #1 in the picture). I always end up with a blob on a 2x2 which is impossible to get rid of. Can anyone tell me what technique should be used on the 4x2 tar. I have tried from every angle and every square, but I know I am missing something!
Thanks very much.

I got it...thank you. Shame that the 4x2 setup is impossible though...it would have helped in other holds.

Well, architects can use tar on purpose to make delvers be careful. If they put in a 4x2 blob, it might be an important choice where to cut it. If you leave behind a 4x2 blob and need to get around both ends, you may have messed up and need to look for a different way to cut the tar. This is exactly what makes tar interesting.

Of course, some other holds have also used a trick like this room even without black doors.

Can't figure out how to handle this room, the hints above are obviously of no help to my exhausted brain.

Help, please. Much appreciated.

Thanks for the fast reply.

The thing is that I've already tried that method without any apparent success. Oh well, need to work on my technique...

Thanks again.

I'm not sure how you couldn't have success with that...unless it's just an issue of maneuvering. In that case, practice makes perfect.

Took a little practice and I am through. Thanks a lot!

P.S. The logic behind this room bothers me though... IMHO tar babies trapped in the corners are still tar, so technically the black doors should remain closed while they are alive. O:-

The black gates wait for all stable tar to be dropped. Since tar babies are alive and hence unstable, they don't affect the gate.

Sigh, I can tell folks are getting this room quicker than me since nobody seems to have had my trouble (or, really any trouble since last summer!).

My trouble is with that 10 x 2 patch of tar in the upper right corner that is turned horizontally.

Use the + in the center to reposition the mimic to be on either side of you instead of above or below. If you need help doing this, remember that when you move diagonally, if the mimic is blocked in one direction it will "slide" along the direction it isn't blocked by. It might be easier to save some of the tar blobs that you are able to destroy without the mimic's help until the end, to help you reposition the mimic.

Darn it! I should have thought of that (but you were kind in not subjecting me to utter humiliation, thank you mighty O!). Since we've all had more than a little maneuvering the distance between the mimic and Master B by now...

I think this game is good for my head, I like the way it gets me thinking (staving off my senility for a few extra days, anyway!).

Pax....

I need help with the challenge in this room. I know how to solve this normally after reading hints from this topic, but 75 turns to remove possiblities of tar circles and kill the mimic sounds impossible.

Please could you clarify?
Which one is the "second blob"?

I could have definitely been less ambiguous when I described that. The key point, though, is that only blobs where the longer side is of even length require the mimic. If one side is of odd length, you can clear the blob yourself.

So you only need the mimic for these blobs, specifically:

So I must have meant the southwest blob, as I describe starting with the northwest one and then going to the northeast.

Hmm, I don't know if it's because my membership subscription expired years ago, but I can't see that image.
Fortunately, I did manage to work it out from what I could understand from the hints. ;)
