See attached demo - I'm one move short, but stuck in such a mental rut that I can't see how to be one more move efficient.

:-) I got stuck in that exact same rut about 2 hours ago.

The first thing is to question your assumptions.
mainly these two:



Secondly, notice that even if you had got the second mimic in time to place it in the top tar room, you still would have been stuck outside of the mud room.

actually, I've tested on the exact sequence in the demo, the mud would grow such that the corner would be accessible from the door and I could get back in.

in answer to your questions:


if I could end the first tar fight with my sword pointing a different direction, I'd be cool, as well. that's the only way I can see to end up with the mimic in a different place. but I never found a way to finish the tar fight differently and reach the potion fast enough to place it.

This statement is false. Or to be more accurate, it may be the only way that you can (currently) see to put the mimic in a different place, but it is in fact not necessary to end up with your sword facing any direction other than north. Also, I didn't see a way to finish with my sword not facing north either.

Sorry, I don't find your demo. Tried downloading the spitemaster's demo, but I'm embarrassed to say I can't figure out how to view it. To place a mimic in the lower tar room anywhere that is not on the wrong side of the arrows, I need to get to the mimic jar before the first spawn, right?

Never mind ! My 11 year old son just showed me how to view the demo. I'm still not sure how I was wasting so many moves, but I'm moving on anyway.
