I'm wondering if anyone has posted this topic previously...my apologies if so.

So what is the deadliest or downright most annoying mix of monsters in a single room? This could also include monsters and objects (Brains and Serpents? or Wraith Wings and Force arrows?) What's really annoying to you?

Me? I say Goblins and anything you can possibly think of! The worst is probably Goblins & Trapdoors which you are required to step over accompanied by Goblins...

Well, I can't really say that I hate any one particular combination the most, and many combinations depend heavily on the sort of context they're in, but there are a few that I find quite deadly.

Tar, Tar Mothers and Trapdoors. Especially in narrow passages with the occasional checkpoint, puzzles can get really difficult to solve if you need to drop all the trapdoors and they all happen to be under the tar. With the occasional wall generating tar babies too, rooms like this can get to be quite a nightmare, although in JtRH, this is not so bad, since you have access to the undo key, and restoration to any previous checkpoint.

Inaccessible serpents and invisibility potions can also be nasty, especially if the dead-end you want the serpent to get to is placed just out of the range of your smell range.

In JtRH, I guess one of the nastiest combinations is Serpents, Brains and Orthogonal Squares. No matter what you do, you can never seem to outrun the serpents!

If Beethro brings with him the x-ray glasses, things under tar aren't a problem. The worst is either racing against a tar mother(so there won't be too many babies)or goblins on trapdoors when there is a red door and they are chasing you and you can't get rid of them and...

But there are some rooms that involve fully trapdoored floors completely beneath tar anyway, with a tar mother present too, which are still nasty to complete.

I was referring primarily to Bavato's Dungeon L13 2S 4E, solving it by dropping all trapdoors, since it was the only example that I could think of off the top of my head. There are, I think, a few more examples in Deep Hold, and perhaps Dusty Dungeon (I can't remember).

Tar mothers generating babies, I agree, are pretty annoying if the tar mass generating them is inaccessible, especially if part of a timer of some sort or an invisibility potion puzzle.

I would have to say that it is one roach in a big maze. I hurt myself multiple times by banging my head on the wall when that happens... very deadly.

Deffinitely serpent+goblin. I hate it. It gets very annoying once you do it for 20th time. I always scan rooms for serpents, and if there's one going in circles I scream "No, not again!"
I have more pleasure from killing goblins than saving them from danger.
In general I don't like rooms where you have to save monsters from something. I can play such rooms a bit, but if they make most of a level I get annoyed quickly.

Oh, Goblins and a checkered maze...
We all remember KDD L18 2N, 2E. More frustrating than it is difficult...or maybe not.

For me it's wraithwings and pits (not pit traps, just pits). If there are enough of those around, it drives me crazy. I am still so bad at guessing how the bloody flying rats will move :(

Large room full of tar and trapdoors with a tar mother behind a red door is a very deadly combination. (And usually very tedious)

Another deadly mix is 15+ brained or around 50+ non-brained (Depending on the room design) spawned monsters per 30 moves with a tricky room so that you can't kill the spawners until the end.

I know what you mean. I hate running into a room where you have to lead a wraithwing anywhere. The worst has got to be Bavato's Dungeon: L2 2S...actually, that entire hold is getting to me.
:?

I'll take that over a loose serpent with roaches or goblins but no nook to kill the snake on, where you have to use the roaches or goblins to kill the serpent.
