That doesn't work because the wraithwings get in your way before that.

The wraithwings in the NW chamber were the most troublesome part of this room, at least until I decided to go on the offensive:


DROD is a truly great game but I feel that enjoyment is enhanced by working out the problems on your own, so, although I like to be helpful, for future reference could you please let me know if you found the above hints to be too specific.
