Pretty much what it says in the title. It goes through the "Downloading hold" and "Calculating space needed" steps, but after about a second on the "Importing data" step it stops and the progress bar disappears.

This has been raised before. The Steam version does not support downloading the official holds (outside of the DLCs) even if you have a Caravel subscription. You can still download community holds.

I migrated away from the Steam version for this reason.

If you own things on Caravel that line up with the Steam packages (either any of the major holds, or the right pairs of Smitemaster's Selections), you should be able to get Steam keys from https://forum.caravelgames.com/member.php?Action=purchases and add them to your Steam installation that way.

Hm. When I try this, I get a message saying "Please Activate The Original Game." I get this message when I try the SMS codes, and also when I try the codes for the pre-Second Sky games. (When I try activating the Second Sky code, it says I already own the game, which makes sense, because that's what the original Steam installation was.)

"Please Activate The Original Game" is from Steam?

All the older games and Smitemaster's Selections are implemented as DLC for Gunthro and the Epic Blunder. Try activating that one first.

With everything activated, you'll have two entries in your Steam library: The Second Sky on its own, and Gunthro with everything else as DLC.

I spoke too soon! I activated the codes, but I still can't put the holds on my Steam client! Ah well.

You have to download the DLC via Steam, not via CNet.
