I was hoping to export my RPG player profile in preparation for RPG 2, but when I tried I got a crash.

I'd be surprised if this is a memory issue, but maybe all those saves I've been making have been adding up.

Since a few people are seeing this, here's a build of 1.2.10 that uses the newer export code. This should hopefully allow exporting of your player file even if it's large.

It has no CNet, and you can't import files it exports back into 1.2 builds.

For Steam: Based on my mostly solid understanding of how the DROD database works, it may be possible to point this build at your Steam saves using DataPath.txt and then export.

Can confirm that I had a crash exporting my profile but with the newer export code it worked perfectly.

hyperme, do you think it would make sense to release an official 1.2.11 patch that includes this change? Is there a PR for it?

It might be worth doing, since all the import/export changes should be easy enough to backport to 1.x.

However, this would be introducing a compatibility issue between 1.2 versions, since only 1.2.11 would be able to import files exported from 1.2.11. I guess this isn't much of a problem with 2.0 arriving somewhat imminently, however.

Mmm...that's a good point. I hadn't thought of that, and it's giving me pause. This creates a sticking point (footgun) that might create more net-trouble than it's worth.

I'm not sure how often this issue will come up for the player base at large. For those not experiencing the issue, they wouldn't update to 1.2.11 regardless, because there would be no point. Also, knowing that there's a version out there people can use to export their older profiles might be good enough. If the issue comes up repeatedly, we could also put this binary on the Downloads page and point people to it.
