I'm currently playing through
an hour of each hold to collect information on things that need special mention in the Deadlies poll. I expect to have this done by the end of the month, so hopefully we'll have the voting start on April 1st.
For categories 14 and 15 I would like help from the community.
For Community Contributor, if you wish to nominate someone, send me a PM explaining who you are nominating and what the reason for the nomination is. For DROD Video Presentation, I mostly just frequent YouTube, so if anyone has been streaming DROD on Twitch in 2024, please let me know.
For category 1, custom elements, there are a few things that need to be sorted out. ZelDROD Dungeon Contest Hold isn't the first ZelDROD hold, so any custom elements there that are from previous holds wouldn't be eligible for this category. Likewise, The Descent of King Hesper includes a bunch of previously published custom elements. Given the length of that hold, there's also a high possibility that mentioning new custom elements would potentially spoil people on them, so I'd like to know if the community wants me to include new custom elements from that hold in the Deadlies, or if the custom elements should just be used to judge the hold's overall scripting without getting into specifics.

×1. Best Custom Game Element
Once upon a time this award was awarded to the hold with the best custom element. These days, there are so many more custom elements released, with many holds containing multiple elements, that we now vote on individual elements instead. Which was your favourite?
2. Design Excellence in a Modification or Addition
This award is for the best addition to DROD that is not a hold. This is mostly in the form of a graphical mod or new room style, but can also include utilities.
Note: this year there is only one eligible candidate, and so there will be no vote.
3. Technical Design Excellence in Scripting
This award is for the hold with the best overall scripting. What this means is up to the voter, it can be for cutscenes, custom elements, challenges, and so on. With scripting, the possibilities are endless!
4. Technical Design Excellence in Layout and Aesthetics
Making a good hold isn't just about good puzzles, aesthetics are also very important! Which hold had the best aesthetics? This can be in terms of level layouts, lighting, a unique visual style, or anything at all that was pleasing to your eye.
Note: You may find the map.php tool useful.
5. Technical Design Excellence in Concept
This award is to recognise those who come up with something unique in their holds. If any hold this year made you think "Wow, what a cool idea!" then it will be the perfect candidate for this award.
6. Creative Design Excellence in Storyline
This award is for the hold with the best storyline.
7. Creative Design Excellence in Difficulty
This award is for the best difficult hold. Whether this means it was the best hold to handle a high difficulty, or the most fun while being hard, or any other interpretation, is up to you. Only holds or level sets with an average vote of 7 or more "brains" (at the time the stats were collected) are eligible for this award.
8. Creative Design Excellence in Entertainment
This award is for the best hold that isn't very difficult. Being easy doesn't mean boring, which hold do you think worked best without resorting to extreme difficulty? Only holds or level sets with an average vote of less than 7 "brains" (at the time the stats were collected) are eligible for this award.
9. DROD Hold of the Year
This award is for the best DROD hold published in 2024.
10. DROD RPG Level Set of the Year
This award is for the best DROD RPG level set published in 2024.
11. Best Voice Artist in a Distinct Role
This award is for the best voice acting in a hold published in 2024.
12. Novice Architect Award
Which new architect was the best? To be eligible for this award, an architect must have released his or her first SOLO hold this year, any previous contribution to a collaborative hold does not count.
13. Erik Hermansen Award for Lifetime Architectural Achievement
This award is for architects who have been creating great holds for years. To create one good hold requires creativity and skill. But to keep on creating good holds, year after year, requires special dedication and inspiration, well worthy of an award. This award is so prestigious, it can only be won once in a lifetime.
Architects who have not previously won this award, published their first stand-alone (non-compilation) hold or level set in 2022 or earlier, have published at least one stand-alone hold or level set in 2024, and have created at least four stand-alone holds or level sets that each have an average vote of 7.0 or higher "fun" (at the time the stats were collected) are eligible for this award.
14. Best Community Contributor
The DROD community receives a number of excellent contributions from the community that are not necessarily directly related to architecture. This award is here to celebrate and honour those who make the DROD community a better place in their own ways. This award is entirely nomination driven and members are eligible for any reason provided somebody else nominates them.
15. Best DROD Video Presentation
Playing DROD isn't the only way you can enjoy DROD, you can watch other people enjoy it too! This award celebrates the Let's Plays and live streams about DROD.
