Thanks to both. The scroll next to the third door says "Village Archives", so I expect the third key will come up later, when it's time to learn the Big Secrets.

While we're at it: there is an inaccessible stairway in the chapter 2 hub, and a secret room above the level exit (I right clicked around the exit room, and the path with the breakable tiles ends right next to the wall, but there is one tile of solid wall there). When do I get to go to either of those places?

What about the inaccessible room in ?

5.1.0 - still no official Caravelnet-enabled release for 5.1.1 on linux .

I checked with my 5.1.1 debug build, and indeed, those two demos are fine there.

Something about temporal clones bumping into each other must have changed.

Edit: no, it's having to do with one of the clones reclaiming his sword one turn later in 5.1.0, when someone steps on the disarm token.

More precisely: in 5.1.0, the timeclone faces the direction he moves in when regaining his sword, suggesting he moves first and then rearms. In 5.1.1, he faces the direction he was originally in, suggesting he rearms and then moves.

I don't know why exactly the bug happened, but I do remember it happening to me during testing.

Be warned: this hold is large.

So large, in fact, that losing progress is quite impactful. I ran into an issue in the Mac version 5.1 where my progress kept getting reset, and ended up having to switch to the Windows version to complete the hold.

Recommend backing up your drod-5_0/ folder periodically as you make progress.

I'd just like to interject for a moment...

Personally I haven't encountered any saving issue so far, nor do I know anyone who did. If you care about uploading highscores I do recommend playing on a 5.1.1 build due to the demo verification issue mentioned above.

I haven't had any severe problems apart from the one reported above. I had a few crashes (5.1.0 has a few known bugs, e.g. with timeclones), but those didn't cause any data loss either.

Warning to anyone playing Chapter 8:

It has come to our attention that a variable set in one room is not being reset correctly, which will cause problems in another level (specifics in the spoiler tag below). Fortunately, once you know that the problem exists, it is very easy to avoid. We would love to fix this, but because of the size of the hold, we are going to hold out until DROD 5.2 is out and then request permission for a single big update.

I don't get something.

In the sanctuary, I find two doors requiring keycards, and two hints where to find them. The first keycard is actually some place else, and also doesn't open the keycard door.
... are there two different keycards both numbered one? What am I missing here?

This hold is... Amazing(ly large)!
Last night I reached the first possible ending and according to the info above, I still have over a 1000 rooms to even see... Phew!
I've been enjoying playing a LOT and also learning (maybe more so formalising) a lot of things DROD does.
That is despite the fact that some places require a fair bit of headbashing on my part; I definitely owe plenty to the H&S board as well as Chaco's playing, if it gets real bad.

It has been mentioned before, but I too am of this nature so I'll mention it again: THANK YOU for making the hold completely traversible and backtrackable.
I very much like when I don't need to restore to get to a particular place. So I hope that at some point, I will have a checkpoint in the restore screen that will say 2480/2480

I can't wait to see what deviousness the latter half of the rooms has in store for me!!
