The Eighteenth Annual People's Choice Awards
Welcome to the 18th Annual People's Choice Awards, also known as The Deadlies!
Yes it's that time of year again -- when the community gets to recognize and reward the best of DROD! Since we missed The Deadlies last year, we will be celebrating the DROD creations of both 2021 and 2022. Thanks to all the architects, streamers, organizers, artists, and players out there in DROD-land!
How voting works:
- You can vote for ONE and ONLY ONE option in EACH category.
- There is the option in each category to not vote if you do not wish to cast a vote for anybody in particular.
- All of your votes must be submitted at the same time. You only get one opportunity to vote, so choose carefully!
- If you choose to view the results before voting, YOU WILL FORFEIT YOUR ABILITY TO CAST A VOTE! So don't do that if you wish to cast any votes.
- You ARE allowed to vote for yourself and your own holds if you wish.
- Voting will end on 1-April, so you have a month to play any holds that you've yet to try.

DROD RPG
No DROD RPG holds were released over the past two years. This is likely because people have been making holds using the as yet unreleased updated version of DROD RPG.
The 15 award categories are:
1. Best Custom Game Element
Once upon a time this award was awarded to the hold with the best custom element. These days, there are so many more custom elements released, with many holds containing multiple elements, that we now vote on individual elements instead. Which was your favourite?
2. Design Excellence in a Modification or Addition
This award is for the best addition to DROD that is not a hold. This is mostly in the form of a graphical mod or new room style, but can also include utilities.
Note: this year there are no eligible candidates, so this question was omitted from the poll.
3. Technical Design Excellence in Scripting
This award is for the hold with the best overall scripting. What this means is up to the voter, it can be for cutscenes, custom elements, challenges, and so on. With scripting, the possibilities are endless!
4. Technical Design Excellence in Layout and Aesthetics
Making a good hold isn't just about good puzzles; aesthetics are also very important! Which hold had the best art, mini-map, or aesthetic feel? This can be in terms of level layouts, lighting, a unique visual style, or anything at all that was pleasing to your eye.
Note: You may find the map.php tool useful.
5. Technical Design Excellence in Concept
This award is to recognize those who come up with something unique in their holds. Ranging from general puzzle concepts to entire custom elements, if any hold this year made you think "
Wow, what a cool idea!"
then it will be the perfect candidate for this award.
6. Creative Design Excellence in Storyline
This award is for the hold with the best characters and story.
7. Creative Design Excellence in Difficulty
This award is for the best difficult hold. Whether this means it was the best hold to handle a high difficulty, or the most fun while being hard, or any other interpretation, is up to you. Only holds or level sets with an average vote of 7 or more "
brains"
(at the time the stats were collected) are eligible for this award.
8. Creative Design Excellence in Entertainment
This award is for the best hold that isn't very difficult. Being easy doesn't mean boring! Which hold do you think worked best without resorting to extreme difficulty? Only holds or level sets with an average vote of less than 7 "
brains"
(at the time the stats were collected) are eligible for this award.
9. DROD Hold of the Year
This award is for the best DROD hold published in 2021/2022.
Note: since The Deadlies covers two years this time, a separate poll question was provided for each year.
10. DROD RPG Level Set of the Year
This award is for the best DROD RPG level set published in 2021/2022.
Note: this year there are no eligible candidates, so this question was omitted from the poll.
11. Best Voice Artist in a Distinct Role
This award is for the best voice acting in a hold published in 2021/2022.
Note: the only hold with voice acting over this period was Treacle Stew.
12. Novice Architect Award
Which new architect was the best? To be eligible for this award, an architect must have released his or her first SOLO hold this year (previous contributions to a collaborative hold do not count).
Note: since there was only one eligible candidate, this question was omitted from the poll.
13. Erik Hermansen Award for Lifetime Architectural Achievement
This award is for architects who have been creating great holds for years. To create one good hold requires creativity and skill. But to keep on creating good holds, year after year, requires special dedication and inspiration, well worthy of an award. This award is so prestigious, it can only be won once in a lifetime.
Previous winners of the Erik Hermansen Award are:
* Doom (2006)
* LarryMurk (2007)
* Jacob (2008)
* BoyBlue (2009)
* Rheb (2010)
* Chaco (2011)
* Dischorran (2012)
* mxvladi (2013)

* Jeff_Ray... (2016)
* kieranmillar (2017)
* disoriented (2018)
* Someone Else (2019)
* skell (2020)
Architects who have not previously won the award, have released a solo hold this year, have 4 or more previous solo releases with a "
fun"
score of 7 or higher, and have released their first solo hold at least 3 years ago (2020 in this case) are eligible for this award.
Here are links to each nominee's holds:

hyperme (

*
navithmastero
*
Xindaris (

14. Best Community Contributor
The DROD community receives a number of excellent contributions from the community that are not necessarily directly related to architecture. This award is here to celebrate and honour those who make the DROD community a better place in their own ways. This award is entirely nomination driven and members are eligible for any reason provided somebody else nominates them.
Note: nobody was nominated, so this question was omitted from the poll.
15. Best DROD Video Presentation
Playing DROD isn't the only way you can enjoy DROD, you can watch other people enjoy it too! This award celebrates the Let's Plays and live streams about DROD.
This list should cover everybody in the community who has recorded video of DROD content in the past two years (parenthetical addendums only mention most recent videos/streams within the 2021/2022 period; I opted to include the two most recent let’s plays and the two most recent DROD streams where I could find them):
* azb for
various streams (Riddles Within the Below)
* Chaco for
various streams (A Walk in the Park, Escort Enterprise, Challenge Crafting, Make a Good Drod Level, et al)
* Dragon Fogel for
streaming Entry Point
* kieranmillar for

Happy voting! Thanks to disoriented, Dragon Fogel, Nuntar, and everyone else in the community for helping me compile these lists.
