I've seen a few older user holds that have backtracking issues because the player left through a tar pool and they can't go back.

Is there a reason to not allow players to use an entrance covered by a tar pool?

We already allow entering on closed doors (at least some types), and also secret/broken walls. If there's a problem with the player co-existing with tar, you can just destroy it automatically like when entering on a secret wall.

Consequences:
The only demos broken would be if it recorded a failed attempt to leave the room.

It may create some unintended solutions. But in the examples I've seen I had conquer the tar room first.

I think there’s a pair of rooms late in KDD that actually depend on the current behavior.

If you're talking about the SW corner of lv 24, there's only one spot this applies, and you can't reach it from either direction.
