In the ore refinery and the rooms around the edge will show green the first time i clear them but when i leave the room it resets and never shows green again
i have reinstalled the game
i did have unlimited undos, dont know if that is important
any ideas?

This is the expected behaviour. Cleared rooms are not marked on the map once the player leaves them.

and in the ore refinery- i have been playing this game for 100+ hours not a newbie misinterpretation

when i revisit a room the monsters are all back I have been to other new areas and the rooms are showing clear- it just seems to be the rooms on the outside of the ore refinery level

the map [bottom left] showing where you have discovered does show cleared rooms as green in my version.

You're going to have to provide more information because what you're currently describing should be impossible.

Which rooms are affected by this?
Which version of the game are you using?

is this the version?
just reinstalled from Steam today and started the ore refinery level from the start.

Thrice North- shows clear and the gate is open

quarce north- on the first visit when the last blue blob is spiked the room turns green on the map
but as soon as i leave the room it turns back to unconquered and the big blue blob is there again
the same in quarce north one east- three different blobs and one conquere button-which does not show that I stepped on it

Also as a detail- the room clear gates are not closing at any point in the visit to these rooms.

Most of the other rooms in the ore refinery were staying clear.

Just checked thrice north twice eat stays clear
twice north thrice west work properly
as does quarce north one west

Are you sure that the rooms are red and not orange? The ones you've mentioned contain a large number of hot tiles, which appear as orange on the mini-map.

Note that blobs of tar, mud, gel and fluff are not monsters, so they'll return to a room when it's re-entered.

Ore Refinery: 4N does a have a roach at (19,15). If it's not there, the room is clear.
