I'd love to be able to play DROD on my laptop in places without power. Unfortunately, just sitting in a room with a lot of creatures devours a very high amount of CPU power (33% or higher), which absolutely destroys my battery life. I suppose a reasonable solution is "
just kill all the creatures"
but then I always end up finding *another* room with creatures
It seems that there should be a way to reduce CPU load considerably without any visible changes, since I wouldn't be surprised to see this game running fine on a 386 - even ignoring that, though, the ambient animations seem to be what's killing the CPU. Any chance of adding an option to turn those off?
I'd try myself but I can't find the 1.6.6 source anywhere (the 1.5 is on the Sourceforge page, but I haven't had any luck finding 1.6.6.) Once the next version plus source comes out I'll probably give it a try if nobody else has by then. Assuming I can get through the dependencies, of course.
