Sometimes, it feels as if our lives are a bit dull compared to the adventures we experience by proxy when we take control of Beethro, Gunthro or one of their friends (or enemies). Most of us who live in the so-called "real world" will never get to run from Slayers, stand frozen by Aumtlich, or deftly manipulate three goblins at once to stand on pressure plates that open a fire trap.

However, we can sometimes, in a small way, recreate a little piece of Beethro's world in ours.

To enter this contest: take and submit a photograph with a DROD theme. Interpret that however you like. Voters will judge your photograph both as a work of art and for how well you have incorporated some aspect of DROD.

Maximum filesize for submissions is 512 KB. If your photograph is larger than this, please use image editing software to bring it below this size. Post here to ask for help if you have any difficulties meeting this requirement.

Images must not contain any content that would not be okay to publish as part of a hold, so no pornography, copyright violation, etc.

As always, up to three submissions per person. Prizes are the usual:

100 rank points + a Prize Pile pick for first place
50 rank points for second place
25 rank points for third place

Deadline for submissions is 22 July, 11pm GMT.

There has been only one submission. I'm going to leave this open until Wednesday, and cancel the contest if we don't have enough entrants by then.

It's not a huge surprise that this should be less popular than architecture contests, but I hoped we could at least get it off the ground

Fans of architecture contests, don't worry -- Xindaris will be running one from the start of August! It has a very interesting theme, so I'm excited about this one.

There's been a bit more interest in this contest, and from Xindaris's post in the Alphabet Stream thread, it looks like he won't be around on Saturday anyway. So I will now leave this open until this Sunday, July 29, noon GMT. This is the final deadline extension.

In accordance with the general rules, 5 entries are needed for the contest not to be cancelled. So please do get your pictures in, everyone! With the small number of entries, you have a much higher chance than usual of winning something!

After two deadline extensions, we still have only two entries, so this contest is cancelled.

techant and NoahT still receive participation credits, which in techant's case makes her entitled to an 8-timer prize -- in fact her eighth 8-timer prize, so maybe she ought to get something special for that?

I posted in the prize pile topic that I would love a downloadable DROD: The Second Sky.

It is the only one I still do not have and would explain why I did so awful in our last contest.
