Oh, soooo scary. Compasses will suddenly point the opposite way. This is waaaay worse than the the Apocalypse the Y2K bug would have caused.

It’s the weakening of the EMF during the actual turning that’s cause for concern. Weak EMF = mass extinctions for species that rely on magnetic navigation, as well as increased radiation from solar wind reaching Earth, which could take down the Caravel internet servers.
