I can't finish this room even with the Tar Mother - I can't get to both orbs because of the tar that doesn't expand blocking the route. Am frustrated and hate Tar. >

But if the tar mother is there, the tar will expand, unless you are blocking it from doing so. Perhaps you need to wait a little longer before killing the tar mother.

Okay, I'd put a room image in if I could work out how...

My problem is that the bit of tar blocking the two orbs will expand into the corridors, creating tar babies, but it won't expand onto the force arrows at any time, rendering the thing impassible.

Unless there's a secret wall I've missed...

I don't understand why not having the tar expand upon the force arrows makes it impassible...the way you are explaining the problem doesn't make sense to me. But read the other hints first, those should help.
