If I enter from the bottom, I can kill everything but the top adder, whose head becomes blocked by the time I get there; if I enter from the top, I spend too much time killing the top two snakes and can't even get into the bottom part. What am I missing?

The best I could manage with your hints is killing the E rattlers 8 turns before the next briar expansion, but the checkpoint I need is already covered. I need some more hints.
