Erik and I simultaneously came up with this idea: A forum UBB code that reveals text at some predetermined time. This was inspired by the October contest, which would otherwise require DiMono to post or edit a post at specific times.

It's pretty similar to the other new time-related codes. Here's how you use it:

[unhidetime=October 3, 2004 10:00am]This text will not be viewable until the specified time.[/unhidetime].

Here's the same example in use, except for the hidden message has been changed: Any non-admin who can find this text before it's revealed to everyone gets 5 rank points.

If anybody finds any holes in this, before the contest uses it (if DiMono so chooses) would be a good time to let me know.

I tried to set my computer's clock few months further. (Some limited time working programs can be fooled with this by turning clock back.)

The system works. There's propably no way to find it out.

I have found a bug in the unhidetime tag.

I was making a prediction post that I wanted to unhide in negative 1014 weeks, 1 day. So I copied an existing post's untiltime code, not remembering the format, but I forgot to change the [/untiltime] to [/unhidetime]. When I went to preview my message, my browser froze on "Read from drod.net."

Further testing revealed that if you forget to close your [unhidetime=11/21/2004 10:00am] tag under any circumstances at all, the same thing would happen. If someone posted without previewing to catch this problem, it would probably be bad.

While I'm here, is there any chance of getting something like this to work:
[unhidetime=[localtime]11/21/2004 10:00am[/localtime]]text[/unhidetime]

It appears that you put day/month/year, when the syntax for this code is month/day/year. I prefer day first as well, but the built-in function I'm using to convert a text date to a timestamp wants the month first.

Could this thread be made a sticky? Every time I want to use one of the tags herein, I always have to go digging through the forum to find this thread and find out what date and time formats are acceptable.
