Bwross, that hint did NOTHING for me. I guess I had to be there when you did your thing.

Okay, my question is the same as Vike91's. How to trap the guard on the plate? (Assuming that's the right thing to do.)

There's a sequence of moves that's very useful to know when you need to manipulate guards:

I am, apparently, significantly dumber than most when it comes to this room. I just can't get it to work at all...

Which trapdoors do I need to clear before I try to trap him?

I did it by dropping the four marked doors (note that this arrangement means standing on the south side with the guard approaching from the NW to get trapped, which is upside-down compared to Watcher's description):
