I toggle between my laptop/desktop rig playing games. I usually set savegame path to my dropbox - I don't see any way to do that in the game, and I can't find the files to do it manually. Anyone know where they live?!

Try C:\Users\(User Name\Saved Games\Heroine's Quest saved games.

Unless they are elsewhere. I have for example moved my user data from the C: hard disk that I replaced a while ago to my E: HD and there the savegames are
E:\User1\My Saved Games

Is there a reason that the number of savegames is limited to 50 despite having more than enough HD space?

Engine limitations. But we only rarely hear of people who use more than a dozen saved games anyway.
