I just read the other thread, one person said it should be moves, then tiercel made a very good argument in favour of time: I disagree with the previous argument that less moves is better than lower clock time. I would bet few people would be interested in viewing an hour long demo of someone making the theoretically least possible moves, although I'm sure there are at least a couple people who would appreciate it.

I've always been going on the assumption that time is what mattered, which is why I posted my level 1 demo as an improvement.

I see... In that case there should be propably own records for fastest demos and least move demos. But if someone makes a demo with theoretically least possible moves, he can easily do it again surely a lot faster.

But time is dependent on computer speed, among other things. Also, any delays between moves of greater than 2 seconds gets truncated to 2 seconds.

Number of moves at least puts everyone on a level playing field, and... well, it's DROD - a turn based puzzle game, not Quake. IMHO, move count is more impressive than time. You could fairly easily cheat on time anyways, by either making all the delays in the demo zero, or by using a macro recorder to play back your run through the level at top speed.

Alright, I got level 12 (after 19 attempts) for a noticable improvement over the previous benchmark. One thing I'll give level 12, since all the solutions are formulaic it really only comes down to human error when you're doing something like this. Made it very easy to repeat the rooms... I could do 1E and 1N1E blindfolded if I needed to now, I think. Anyway, my numbers:

Time: 11:35
Moves: 5827
Rooms: 17/11

Edit: As a side note, the last twelve hours have taught me that it's a bad idea to take on challenges like this without sleeping the night before... and the pinky finger on my right hand is just about non-functioning. Serves me right, I guess.

On the bright side though, I have the low totals for levels 4, 8, 9, 10, 12 and 13, and low time on level 1, so I guess in some twisted way it was worth it... if only my hands can recover.

Here's another improvement for level 1

I saved a move in Sence North, Once West. And the funny thing is my room solutions are not all just carbon copies of the previous demo. I also learned that it only costs you two moves in Quince North Twice West to start at the bottom orb... I start from the top in the demo :P

I can't get the democount program to work (maybe because I'm using Windows 98?), but I made a manual estimate and am sure that this is a big improvement on level 15. I wasted a lot of moves in the second last room, so there is still plenty of room for improvement.

What I noticed a while ago about these demos, and what I'm sure many others have noticed as well, is how important it is to plan your route. The biggest difference between my original level 9 demo and my current one is that the first time I had something like 27 rooms visited of a much smaller number. This time I made a point of looking at the level, deciding the best order to conquer the rooms, and then doing it. After all, it costs between 15 and 38 moves each time you have to go back through a room.

How do you export whole level demos? I did a demo for level 3 the right way (f5) and after I finished, I wnt to f6 and it only had individual demos :(
