I always love listening to DROD's music while playing the game.
I saw that
some (why not all?) of DROD's music is available for MP3 purchase at 256kbps.
I decided to rip the game files instead and I got some ogg files.
Bitrate is low and it just sounds weird (because of compression) and it gives me a headache after a while (typical of low-quality source).
But I ran a dynamic range meter over there and was genuinely impressed. No compression at all. Some songs were over dynamic range 14dB, where as the "
modern"
standard is to ruin everything and do ~5dB.
Surely this music isn't made ultra professionally with €500000 gear, but I do know that the way this music is made it can be exported to higher quality formats for a clearer and more detailed sound. And it'll remove headaches due to the compression algorithm of ogg as well.
I'd pay quite a lot of money for this, amazing music that is
not compressed hardcore is a very rare find nowadays. Not to mention the clipping and distortion...
Anyone else in the same boat as me? Or am I a lonely audiophile out here?
- Melvin.
