I always love listening to DROD's music while playing the game.
I saw that some (why not all?) of DROD's music is available for MP3 purchase at 256kbps.

I decided to rip the game files instead and I got some ogg files.
Bitrate is low and it just sounds weird (because of compression) and it gives me a headache after a while (typical of low-quality source).

But I ran a dynamic range meter over there and was genuinely impressed. No compression at all. Some songs were over dynamic range 14dB, where as the "modern" standard is to ruin everything and do ~5dB.

Surely this music isn't made ultra professionally with €500000 gear, but I do know that the way this music is made it can be exported to higher quality formats for a clearer and more detailed sound. And it'll remove headaches due to the compression algorithm of ogg as well.

I'd pay quite a lot of money for this, amazing music that is not compressed hardcore is a very rare find nowadays. Not to mention the clipping and distortion...

Anyone else in the same boat as me? Or am I a lonely audiophile out here?

Maybe we can make a deal with Jon Sonnenberg to sell his DROD music. If we do, then we would provide it at a higher quality level.

Indeed, and he really shouldn't compress it "to the modern standard" as it is. Leave it natural-sounding (as far as it is possible with this kind of music), no processing is the best processing!

I never even saw it!
But I don't think it was in loseless anyway or it would be the first time so far which would be a great change.

Hopefully the other music will get released in a high-quality format soon™.

By the way, Jon Sonnenberg and I are in talks about putting a (lossless) collection of his DROD music up for sale.

His tracks for TSS are done, and they are excellent. There's over 100 minutes of new music in there!

I've messaged with Jon Sonnenberg over SoundCloud and like Mike says, there is a DROD TCB OST in the works.



To answer melvin's question about the dynamic range, Jon does a lot of production on analog synthesizers and even analog multitrack recorders, meaning he isn't going to be applying the same mastering that a lot of digital studio musicians are nowadays, which is honestly great, coming from a fellow, well, not total audiophile, but as an amateur producer and music lover.

EDIT: Here's a song by Jon using the same 1996 flute recording as the title screen for TCB. Enjoy!

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but is this still something that is in the works? Count me in with all the others above who would happily pay $15 for a C.D. with loss less versions of the TSS, GatEB, etc. music. I can't seem to find any information about this on the site though other than in this thread.
