icon Windows version creates unnecessary directories (+1)
As originally noted by nabla over here.

By default, DROD 4 on Windows (4.0.2.112) stores user-specific data in the all users profile, e.g. C:\ProgramData\Caravel\drod-4_0. This in itself isn't a bad thing.

But even when that location has been overridden using DataPath.txt, the game still creates the default directory. So even though I have this in my DataPath.txt file:
D:\Games\DROD - Gunthro and the Epic Blunder\UserData;D:\Games\DROD - Gunthro and the Epic Blunder\Data;
the C:\ProgramData\Caravel\drod-4_0 directory and empty Bitmaps, Homemade, Music and Sounds directories are re-created each time the game starts.

This isn't a major issue, but it prevents a portable installation (e.g. where both paths are on a USB key) from being completely zero-footprint on a system. Ideally the game will only create the directories it's actually configured to use.
