I don't think this is stupid at all. It is exactly why players don't know eachother's score. It is a partial defence against the Kingmaker problem. There are many 3+ player games where you do not show your score openly. Some only show other players that you scored, but not by how much.

Here, there is no way to hide which color is in the lead, but at least the six different colors can obfuscate who is doing what.

One advantage of the physical version is that it's not as clear how many points each colour has (Most of the time, you'd only count the points of the colours that you think players own). Then this is avoided somewhat, but not entirely.
