Yes, I'm Red. I thought I actually had it sewn up until the bit about 12th Archivist getting to pick which Hex I couldn't use (and assuming that 12th Archivist would prefer to let Red and Grey duke it out rather than hand the game to Grey).
I don't think any of that changes my choices on the penultimate round, or my strategy in general which was to not choose locations with my color on them until I had to. This strategy allowed me to maximize the number of times I chose orientation on Red-connected hexes, and, hopefully, to push those choices later in the game when I could see rather than speculate about how those orientations would lead to red-expansion.
I didn't put much thought into piece selection... at that point in the turn, there's too many possibilities to expect to be able to make good or bad choices on purpose, so I just made random choices, except that I avoided pieces with black in them (on the theory that someone might choose to put that piece on a red-connected hex and I might get blocked in early). As a side note, it might be interesting to investigate a two player game with randomly selected pieces, and alternating which player selects locations and which selects rotations. That way you can avoid the king-maker situation.
As far as deducing who was who, I was pretty sure 12th Archivist was yellow about mid-way through. And, given that Grey was the only competitive color at that point, I made the guess that Luc was Grey. (None of that really affected my play. I typically just picked rotations to block any color other than red). I was pretty far behind, but in good position since only one of my original segments had been blocked in, and I had yet to make an overtly Red choice.
