I don't think this one has a secret to it...it's just some good old-fashioned roach fighting.

I'd start from the bottom of the E entrance and try to race to the first nook, then go nook-to-nook. You can make progress as many of the roaches remain trapped near the spawn point, except when you make a break for it to cross sides.

I can clear the lower "E" with ease, but I can't clear any of the other rooms before I get more roaches on my back and I have to back down

Unfortunately, I can't play it without replicating the room in the editor, since I'm not that far in flash. But there's a version twice as large in DROD KDD 2.0, and even an identical version loaded with ortho-squares. So I'm sure it's possible with patience.

Just looking at the map here, though, I do see a potential trick to save you from roach overload:
