The "
let's get DROD music back into DROD for custom styles"
plan I had (which you can see
over here) appears to be at least in part
in-process with plans for 5, so I wanted to revisit the topic with a few targeted requests.
1) Set Music should have the option of selecting ALL the musics of a particular style. This will set the music appropriately based on the presence or absence of monsters (and handle exit music properly as well). For example, I should be able to "
Set Music Beach"
without writing a complex script that sets the music to Beach Ambient when there are no monsters, Beach Exit when using exit stairs, etc. (An alternative to this would be to have music style selectable separately from visual style in the editor.)
2) In 4, custom styles get Forest music. This is far better than 3, where they get dead silence, but I'd much prefer it if custom styles could include their own default music. Forest music may not be appropriate for all custom styles and it gets repetitive not to mix things up. I would ideally like to see the default music for the currently CN-supported custom styles hit a wider range than always defaulting to Forest.
3) Even better? If people who create custom styles could create or gather four free-use music files to accompany each style. If there is any leftover DROD music after the 5 conversion (like the much older stuff), perhaps it could be cannibalized. I would even personally offer to pay the composer who has done the recent DROD scores to make some more music for the custom styles that are already supported.
For the record, the CN styles are Basalt, BlueBricks, InFlamesRock, Sanctum Two, Sandstone, Voids, and Volcano. Other notable styles which are not currently published in any existing holds include Flaming Peligroso, Garden, Great Jungle, and Paper.
