icon GatEB demo fails to launch on Mac (+2)  
Hi all,
I get the following when I launch the application:
"An error occurred while trying to open "DROD-GatEB-64bit".

I have downloaded the DMG twice, and reinstalled twice, same result.

I am running Lion Mac OS X 10.7.3

Hope someone can help!

I think the bug I had in build 108 is fixed now in build 109. Would someone who was initially seeing the startup crash try to download the game again to see whether it's fixed now without running with the "nofullscreen" command line argument?

By renaming my ~/Library/Application Support/Caravel/drod-4_0 folder, I was able to launch build 109 from a fresh configuration. The game launched successfully in windowed mode, made it to the main screen, and was playable as normal.

Thanks, Chaco, for verifying the fix in build 109. David, would you download and install build 109 (4.0.0.109)? It should have the startup crash fixed for you.

I downloaded a fresh copy (from the Download page), relaunched, and got same message. I checked the ~/Library/Application Support/Caravel folder, and there was no drod-4.0 folder, so I surmise that the application isn't getting far enough to create this.

Am I downloading the right file? Or is there another location I should be accessing?

I am using a MacBook Pro, vintage 2009, 8 GB memory, NVidia 9400M graphics board, if that helps. Processor 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

libmk4.dylib is the Metakit library we use to work with the game's .dat files. I have no idea what the "libmk4.dylib: unknown required load command 0x80000022" message is about, but it's ostensibly what's causing the game to fail to start up. I'll have to research this. If anyone else can help explain and suggest a fix for this, I'm all ears.

I'd like to check: is everyone having trouble here running 10.5 or 10.6? In other words, only people with 10.7 are getting the game to run?

Edit: I'm about to get technical here, citing from some stuff at

They say to watch out for LC_DYLD_INFO_ONLY when running "otool -l <binary>", and that instead you should only have "LC_DYLD_INFO". But I see neither when I build on 10.7 with gcc 4.2.1. Instead, "otool -l path/to/drod" shows me "LC_LOAD_DYLIB". Where is the "LC_DYLD_*" part supposed to show up in the otool output?

David, when you unpackage the app and then the game fails to run, can you click on "Report" in the error box that pops up and paste here what the error details are? I'm thinking you might have a different error than what people with 10.5 are experiencing.

I'd responded to this question in chat with mrimer, but it seems like it might be a good idea to post this for others for the sake of helping to clarify things:

Aside from fullscreen problems, it seems to me (so far from looking at people's specs) that only people with 10.6 are getting the game to run. Hi, a short update. Unfortunately (for me), my car was stolen last night, together with my MacBook. So, this is now somewhat a moot point for me. I will be replacing it soon, when I can retest.

However, I have now downloaded the demo on my iMac, also running 10.7.3, and the application is working properly. No error on launch. I now plan to have a test play. Although I do need to call the insurance company and a couple of banks too.... What to do first?
