icon Windows ME: GatEB won't run (0)
When I start the GatEB demo, I get the following error:

"The procedure entry point getaddrinfo could not be located in the dynamic link library WS2_32.dll"

Anyone know what that means?

This is a function that was added to Windows starting with Windows XP - which Windows version are you using?

ME.

Well, that explains it. Perhaps I should finally buy a new computer. That said, perhaps the installer should display a warning if you don't have the correct system.

Ah, okay. Does anyone happen to know if simply including this .dll file in the install directory, or something like that, would fix this issue?

In theory, yes it would.

In practice, this may run into compatibility issues between WinXP and whatever system the end user is running. It's worth a shot to test it, though.

Apparently Microsoft has a (compile-time) work around. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955045

Interesting; that sounds like it should work. I'd be happy to try it out if you need a test case.

Thanks for the tip. We don't call GetAddrInfo anywhere in the codebase. It looks like it's in libcurl. We'll have to see whether that library can be rebuilt with this workaround included.

Edit: I've tried to rebuild libcurl with the recommended "#include <wspiapi.h>" before the other header file, and I get a lot of errors when compiling. I've tried a few variants that others have suggested and none have been successful for me.

Hm, I just downloaded the demo of TCB and it doesn't run either. I do recall playing that game on this computer earlier, so perhaps this is a new build that no longer runs on ME? If so, are older builds still available somewhere? (edit) JTRH still works.

I am not going to attempt to fix this issue for Windows ME. I understand root cause is in newer versions of a third-party lib, and it's infeasible for us to revert to using a sufficiently old version.
