There must be a thread on suggestions for marketing opportunities for DROD but I'll be darned if I'm ever going to find it.

I'm pretty sure you said you contacted the Humble Indie Bundle and they weren't interested, right?

Does Big Fish do non-casual stuff? Maybe Steam alternatives like Desura might be better.

GoG is great, I recently bought a good couple of games there. M&M 9, BG2, Ultima 4+5+6, Abe's Odyssey. Totals up to 4 games, which is around as much as I, usually, buy annually. Great site.

I think Caravel is not ready to give up Caravel subscription and ranking network, since now it become main source of income for the company.

If DROD is on Steam, the price of them would be 5USD or even less, and Steam would mingle new achievement scoring system into Steam, which will make Caravel's current ranking network obsolette.

In a way, Steam would swallow CaravelGames in a gulp.

This is not true for indie developers. Steam is a treasure for about 1% of indie game developers. They're typically the ones you hear about that have become popular by virtue of having a game on Steam. The other 99% have a struggle rising out of obscurity.

Zombie-hunting games seem to do well on Steam. Have you considered retheming DROD with Beethro as a zombie hunter? Roaches could be your basic-grade shamblers, goblins could be less decomposed types, aumtlich could be zombified police with stun guns. Beethro would be armed with a crowbar, of course.

Maybe this has already been suggested (or maybe it is not a very good suggestion), but how about asking some famous YouTube reviewers such as TotalHalibut to do a review/playthrough of DROD?

TotalHalibut, for example, is a man who reviews newly released indie games in videos called "WTF is <game name here>?". He gives his first impressions by recording live his first playthrough.

He's really famous and probably constantly spammed with game review requests every day, but I'm confident there are many more reviewers that have a large following on YouTube.

I personally like LazyGameReviews.

What do you think about asking some of these channels to give DROD a playthrough?

How would I get flak for it? My uploads would be first? They date-time-stamp all that. And the only thing I would get depressed by is their 7 godzillabillion views to my 30 or so.

A random thought - might want to give Indievania a shot. Their whole platform is DRM free games on multiple platforms in which 100% of the sales go directly to the developer.

It's actually run by the developers of Capsized, who hail from my hometown! :)
