Well, looking at this topic it seems that Beethro needs to stand

Apparently my understanding of snake bodies as obstacles isn't enough. I have a snake body (tail, actually) on all 8 squares that access the center, and the baby acts no differently.

EDIT: Figured it out. Had to change the snakes' parity by one.
