Hellooooooo --

This is really more of a question than a feature request -- I hope this is the most relevant board?

Anywhoo, I have the Linux version of JtRH but would love to play it on my Windows machine 'cause it's in the family room and hooked up to a huge TV. Before I plonk down the extra kablinky, can someone verify that the save games are portable between the Linux and Windows versions?

I'm pretty sure the save games are portable, but even more to the point - you don't need to involve more kablinky, you'll just have to contact support to hook you up with the Linux installer.

Or you could get a CaravelNet subscription and have them register your copy of JtRH with your CaravelNet account so you can always download any version of JtRH and join the high scores fray...

We should really rename the Bugs board to Support sometime. Oh well.

Anyway, I can't confirm it, only say that I think it's likely. But I also think that you could probably transplant your .dat files and just compile the game for Windows.

Saved games are very portable - I remember going back between Linux and Windows back when JtRH first came out without an issue. Either copy over the .DAT files manually, or export your player file from the Linux version, install the Windows version and import all the holds you had imported before, and then import your player file.

If you need any more help/walking through this, don't hesitate to email support[AT]caravelgames[DOT]com and I can help you through it.

You're right! I emailed them up and got a link to the installer before you could say "tar babies". The only logical explanation is that the DRoD dudes are awesome.

Yep, that worked quite well. Now if only we had a savegame-sync-to-CaravelNet feature...

You mean like the Steam Cloud?

Pretty much. I've got a couple machines I play DRoD on and it'd be nice if I didn't have to move savegames around. Dropbox makes it convenient enough that it's not too painful, though.

Hmmm, there could easily be a tutorial written up about using a program like Dropbox to sync a couple of computers' saved games and holds. Not sure if there's much demand, and it would involve things like symlinking and what-not.

I will fully and wholly support a use for CNet that extends beyond 'saving me the five seconds required to open a browser'.
