Re: July 2004 Contest: Least Number of Moves! (+1)
Alright, seeing how it's currently 2:45am and it's technically July 15 for me, and since I can't sleep (or type) right now, I figure I may as well open up submissions for the contest now. Many people have downloaded the hold, both from this thread and from my website, and many sets of victory demos have been saved. Now here's what you need to do in order to turn those demos in to an entry:
First, take your lowest demo move count for each of the six puzzle rooms (Entrance, 1N, 1E, 1S, 1W, 3W) and add them up. For 3W, the keystrokes for placing the mimics are counted in the move total within the demo, and that's the number we're going by since it's recorded for posterity.
You should now have a move total from the demos. Below this post, you need to make a new post that includes that total, and the number of moves you used in each room as well. If after you've made your post you then manage to lower your move total, feel free to update your post with the new numbers. I ask that you edit instead of making a new post because it will make it a little easier to go through the entries in 6 days, and it'll save you having to type out all the numbers again instead of just updating the ones that have changed.
If your move total is higher than some of the others posted, don't despair: even if yours isn't one of the three lowest totals, you can still win rank points! If you have the fewest moves in any one room, you get 5 rank points regardless of what your overall total is, and just for having a total lower than mine you get 10!
This means that if your move total is 3000, but you only used 35 of those moves in 1E, you would still earn 5 points for having the fewest moves in a room. If the third lowest move total was 1900 and your total was 2000, but that's lower than mine (and it is), you still get 10 points. In the case of a tie for low moves in a room, everyone involved gets 5 points (if fifteen people all tie for low moves in 1N, 75 points are given out).
Entries will be accepted until July 20, and I'll make a post 24 hours before closing as well as a post to end submissions. Then I'll go through the entries and figure out who's in line for a prize, and those people will have to zip their demos and post them so everyone can see how they did it, and so I can verify them. I'm going to request that demos be posted within two days of the end of the entry deadline, just so the contest doesn't drag on and on ...and on.
So there you have it, entries for the contest may now be officially made. Several days ago, eytanz made his submission to me in email because he knew he wouldn't be around this week, and now I'll put it up here as the first official entry to the contest:
Eytanz:
Entrance: 88
1N: 971
1E: 48
1S: 570
1W: 120
3W: 235
Total: 2032
Good luck to all!
